WHAT IS SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Somatic psychotherapy is a holistic and integrative approach to working with the mind and body.  Our experiences, memories and emotions are held on a cellular level, which is often apparent when just talking about a situation does not lead to change.  Our thoughts, attitudes and beliefs can also impact our physical body in both positive and negative ways, often without our awareness.

Somatic psychotherapy can help deepen our connection to ourselves and reconnect with our "inner healer", allowing for greater self-awareness, compassion and presence.  Reconnecting our mind, body and spirit can be truly life-changing.

APPROACH

Our approach is trauma-informed and collaborativeSessions may include:

  • gentle grounding practices/mindful movements to help release stress/tension, enabling a felt sense of more presence.  Every body is unique and each session is specific to your needs.  You will never be asked to do anything that does not feel right for you and your body;

  • gentle breathing practices to help with nervous system regulation; and

  • an exploration of sensations as they arise, increasing our capacity for self-awareness and self-regulation.

We hold deep respect, compassion and presence for you and your body's innate wisdom.  It is our honour to support you in creating a sacred inner space as you move through your life's experiences.
